As Cadets develop as individuals and leaders they will be given the opportunity to gain promotions. To gain an initial promotion to the rank of Corporal, cadets must follow the below process:
Phase 1 – Application Form
All applicants for promotion to the rank of Corporal are required to complete an application form which will be sent through to the Officer in Charge of the Interviews.
Phase 2 – Assessment of Competence
The applicants if short listed will be invited to complete an assessment. The method of assessment will include a Theory Assessment on some of the basic information an NCO would be expected to know and a Practical Assessment of their drill and uniform. They will also be observed over a period of time both in a Leadership position and as a member of the team (these observations can be carried out at any time).
Phase 3 – Interview
On successful completion of phase 2 applicants will be invited to an interview Panel, which will often consist of the Squadron Commanding Officer and the Squadron Senior NCO.
Phase 4 – Probation
Dependent on the number of vacancies, successful applicants will be promoted at the discretion of the Commanding Officer and will be on Probation for a minimum of 3 months.
The same process or elements of the process may be followed for all applicants for Sergeant and Flight Sergeant at the discretion of the Squadron Commanding Officer.
